Few things compare to the adrenaline rush and exhilaration one gets from being face to face with a 5 m Great White, especially when they curiously cruise right up to the cage and eye you within kissing range! Shark cage diving offers the opportunity for us to witness sharks in their own territory and to come closer to acknowledging that there is more to these animals than meets the eye.
Of the estimated 350 plus shark species in the world, the iconic Great White has always fascinated mankind the most – for various reasons. The Great White as we know it today is believed to have been around for 70 million years, but their very first ancestors might have appeared already as early as 200 – 500 million years ago! Yet, it is shocking how little we know of these most adapted species that outlived even dinosaurs and the ice ages!
THE JOURNEY starts at your accommodation. We will take you to Gans Baai and the famous shark alley, where you will spend time on a boat viewing the incredible Great White Shark. We will also have time in the afternoon for a scenic drive through Hermanus and back to Cape Town.
The drive to Gans Baai will take around 2hrs 30mins and a chance to see the lovely False Bay Coastline and the Famed Sir Loury’s Pass.
We go to the Shark Capital of the World arriving in Gans Baai to enjoy a light breakfast. We will give you a rundown of the day’s activity where you will be provided with a wetsuit, facemask, booties and a weight belt. No certification is need to cage dive.
You will be told the procedure for the dive, where to hold on inside the cage etc. and then off you go!
Those who don’t want to get in the cage will still experience an amazing view from the boat with fabulous photographic opportunities. Snacks will be served on the boat.
Cage Diving with these magnificent creatures is an exhilarating experience and an opportunity not to be missed. Time permitting we will discuss the options for a visit to a local wine farm before heading back.
